IMG_0947Camp Knock Knock is a weekend camp for families with children who have experienced the death of a loved one.

This year’s camp will run June 2-4, 2017 at YMCA’s Camp Abnaki in North Hero, Vermont.

Designed to provide open support and guidance, families receive opportunities for growth and healing with the help of skilled counselors and specially-trained volunteers. Children and adults are divided into peer groups to explore the natural grieving process and learn from each other through facilitated group activities.

Camp Knock Knock began 20 years ago as the signature project of the Junior League of Champlain Valley in collaboration with the UVM Health Network – Home Health & Hospice’s Hospice program. Camp is named in memory of Alisha Reis who loved knock knock jokes. It remains an honor to celebrate her undaunted spirit and the endless love she shared with others.

Campers participate in a variety of activities that include:

  • Recreation for all levels and ages
  • Arts & Crafts
  • Campfire
  • Story time
  • Reiki
  • Nightly entertainment
  • Taiko drumming
  • Waterfront activities (weather permitting)
  • Trail walking
  • Ping Pong
  • Candlelight remembrance ceremony
  • Small group sessions to provide strategies to adults & children in coping with grief

Camp accepts up to 15 families on a first come basis. Families must meet two criteria: a loved one has died and children are accompanied by a parent or guardian. Each family is asked to pay a $50 non-refundable registration fee. Scholarships are available. All meals and housing are provided. Arrival time is around 4 pm on Friday, June 2, and runs through early afternoon on Sunday, June 4.

If your family is interested in the camp and would like more information, please contact Ally Parker, Clinical Camp Knock Knock Director, at 802 860-4499 ext. 3405.
